McCoy expected to report to Browns' camp

BEREA, Ohio -- The Cleveland Browns expect quarterback Colt McCoy back Monday for the team's offseason program.

The question is how much longer he's with the Browns.

GM Tom Heckert said Friday the team had no discussions with any other team about trading McCoy after the selection of Brandon Weeden in the first round of the NFL Draft. Heckert and Shurmur said Weeden was drafted to start, which is logical given he will be 29 in October. That could mean McCoy's days in Cleveland are numbered.

"I plan on Colt being here on Monday as part of the offseason program," coach Pat Shurmur said. "I think there's no story there right now. We drafted a quarterback to come in and compete with him at this point, and that's where it's at."

Shurmur said McCoy went back to Texas on Friday for a visit that had been planned. Shurmur talked with McCoy briefly Friday, but did not discuss McCoy's future.

The Browns emphatically denied that they told McCoy they would not draft a quarterback in the first round. ESPN reported McCoy had been told that.

"We don't talk to our players about who we're picking," Heckert said.

"Absolutely false," Shurmur said of the report. "We don't consult our players on what we're doing in the draft."

The ESPN report did not cite a specific source for the information, though it clearly seemed to come from McCoy's camp.

McCoy congratulated Trent Richardson on Twitter after his selection by the Browns as the third overall pick, but he was silent about Weeden.

"I haven't run into Colt," Weeden said when he met the Cleveland media for the first time. "As far as that other stuff, that's out of my control. I'm here to compete and that's a management decision."
