Masset rehabbing harder/Stubbs to return Friday
The Reds are getting some good news on the injury front;
Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports that the Cincinnati Reds' Nick Masset will begin ramping up his rehab. He will throw 20-25 pitches from the bullpen mound, in an attempt to return to the lineup.
"As long as fastballs feel good tomorrow, maybe we'll get to spin some [offspeed] stuff off of the mound on Thursday," Masset said. "We're making big strides right now. It feels good.
Masset has been on the DL the entire 2012 season with a shoulder injury, but the Reds have been playing well enough to allow him more time to rehab his injury.
Meanwhile, CF Drew Stubbs is set to return from the DL on Friday. Stubbs has been out since June 5 with a strained oblique muscle, and took swings off a tee on Monday.
His return will allow more breathing room in the outfield. Ryan Ludwick and Chris Heisey have been taking the bulk of the outfield work, and one of them will be able to return to backup duty with the return of the speedy Stubbs.
He is expected to be in the lineup for Friday's home game against the Minnesota Twins.
