Marlins starter Jarred Cosart leaves game in 6th with tight hamstring

LOS ANGELES -- Miami Marlins right-hander Jarred Cosart left Wednesday night's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers in the sixth inning with a tight right hamstring and is listed as day to day.

Following the 5-4 victory, Cosart said he felt the discomfort while striding down the mound on the pitch Alex Guerrero connected on for a one-out single to right field. It went away when he went to cover first but it grabbed at him walking back to the mound. He could be seen bending over and placing his hands on his knees.

"I literally didn't feel anything until the pitch I came out on," Cosart said. "It was that pitch. ... It grabbed. Felt like something was grabbing me. We'll find out more tomorrow or the next day. I've never had the issue before. It's new to me. It just feels like something's grabbing at it."

Manager Mike Redmond, pitching coach Chuck Hernandez, head athletic trainer Sean Cunningham and the entire infield visited Cosart on the mound. He did not take a warmup pitch before leaving the field with Cunningham.

Early on, Cosart had a 2-0 lead on Giancarlo Stanton's RBI groundout and his own RBI single. But he allowed a run to score on a wild pitch in the fourth and surrendered a pair of homers -- one to former teammate Enrique Hernandez and another to Joc Pederson -- in the fifth to fall behind 4-2.

Over 5 1/3 innings, the 24-year-old righty surrendered four runs on five hits with four strikeouts and three walks on 91 pitches (55 strikes).

Righty Sam Dyson came on in relief, inducing an inning-ending double play to close the book on Cosart's line.

"I don't know," Cosart said of the timeframe. "Obviously anytime you have an injury it's tough. I guess we'll just see. I didn't hear anything pop. I'm not in an extreme amount of pain, so that's at least making me optimistic. But at the same time, like I said, I've never dealt with it. Hopefully it's something similar to what (Mat) Latos had. A one or two day thing."
