WASHINGTON -- The Marlins placed right-hander Jacob Turner on the disabled list (retroactive to April 4) with a right shoulder strain.
Turner, who was scheduled to pitch Wednesday's game against the Nationals, woke up in the morning stiff and was sent to Miami for an MRI.
"We don't have any results from that yet, so hopefully we'll know more tomorrow," manager Mike Redmond said.
Turner felt discomfort in his shoulder/back area Tuesday while swinging in the cages -- as part of an everyday routine -- with the other starting pitchers.
The 22-year-old allowed five runs on eight hits over six innings for a no decision in his 2014 debut last Thursday against the Rockies.
Redmond hopes Turner will miss just one or two starts. Left-hander Brad Hand earned the starting nod in his place.
"It happens occasionally, not a lot," Redmond said of the type of injury. "It's going to take a few days, if everything's feeling great, and throw a bullpen. It should be good to go if everything's fine. We should know more tomorrow."
Miami recalled right-handed reliever Arquimedes Caminero from Triple-A New Orleans.
Caminero was 1-0 with a 2.25 ERA over two appearances with the Zephyrs. He struck out five batters and walked none in four innings, giving up a run on three hits.
"He pitched great in spring training and really came in last year and did a nice job," Redmond said. "That was a tough conversation and tough decision for us. He pitched great in spring training, and we all know how this game works. You’re gonna end up needing guys, and I think that was the message we sent to him."
