Marlins' Justin Bour named September's NL rookie of the month

Miami Marlins first baseman Justin Bour was named National League Rookie of the Month for September on Monday.

Bour hit .290 with nine home runs and 25 RBI in 26 games in the season's final month. Over 129 contests, Bour finished .262 with 20 doubles, 23 dingers -- third most among NL rookies -- with a team-high 73 RBI.

The 27-year-old likely cemented his role as the starting first baseman in 2016. A former Rule 5 pick in the Triple-A phase, Bour took over duties in May when free-agent signee Michael Morse struggled and injured his right ring finger.

The last Marlin to win the award was Jose Fernandez in August 2013.

Cleveland Indians shortstop Francisco Lindor received the accolade in the American League.
