KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Chiefs' dreadful season has angered many fans, and one may have taken the frustration too far.
Ronald L. Hall, 65, was charged in Jackson County (Mo.) Court with assault and armed criminal action after the Lee’s Summit, Mo., man allegedly shot a man after insults were traded during the Chiefs' 28-6 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, according to a KSHB news report.
According to courtroom documents, Hall watched the game at a house in Lee's Summit with a number of other men, including his son, as the Chiefs dropped their seventh consecutive contest to fall to 1-9.
Court documents allege drinking was involved and sharp words were exchanged throughout the afternoon. Hall, known for a short temper, allegedly grew angry during the dialogue and shot the victim in the face with a shotgun. According to a KCTV5 report, investigators said the victim suffered a stroke and will likely have permanent injuries, that may include brain damage, as a result of the shooting.
Hall had threatened to shoot others in the past, according to court papers, and authorities evacuated residents in the neighborhood as a precaution after he was unwilling to leave the house when police arrived. A two-month-old baby also was removed from the house along with Hall, though the report did not specify if there was any family connection.
Fans have bargained with the Chiefs' lost season in a variety of ways, but this sad episode took the angst to an unfortunate level.
