Maier glove from Orioles-Yankees ALCS game up for auction

Published Feb. 16, 2015 2:47 p.m. ET

Nearly 20 years after wreaking havoc on a 1996 AL Championship Series opener opener between the Baltimore Orioles and New York Yankees, the legend of Jeffrey Maier lives on.

It was announced on Monday that the glove Maier used when he reached over the right-field stands to pull in a game-tying home run hit by Derek Jeter in the bottom of the eighth inning is being auctioned.

Umpire Rich Garcia declined to call fan interference and Bernie Williams hit an 11th-inning home run that gave the Yankees a 5-4 victory. Baltimore's protest was denied by baseball's ruling executive council and AL President Gene Budig.

The auction will be held on Feb. 21, but bidding has already opened online. As of this writing, the current bid for the mitt is $13,000.
