The Orlando Magic received a scare when Glen Davis was fouled and dislocated his left shoulder late in Wednesday's victory over the Washington Wizards on Wednesday.
On Thursday, an MRI revealed a shoulder sprain. The injury will keep Davis sidelined four to six weeks, but will not require season-ending surgery.
"After further evaluation by our medical staff, Glen Davis has been diagnosed with a left shoulder sprain," Magic general manager Rob Hennigan said in a statement.
"The MRI showed no significant structural damage. He will be treated non-operatively. Treatment will include rest and subsequent strengthening of the muscles around his shoulder. His return will depend on progress made during his rehabilitation."
Davis has become a team leader and is having the best season of his career, averaging career highs in minutes (33), points (16), rebounds (7.9) and assists (1.8).
It's unclear who coach Jacque Vaughn will use to fill the void in the starting lineup, though he has several options. Rookie Andrew Nicholson has been showing improvement off the bench, while Josh McRoberts has been playing both forward spots throughout the season.
If he's looking for size, Vaughn could turn to reserve centers Gustavo Ayon or Kyle O'Quinn.
And while the team may be without Davis for an extended period, Hedo Turkoglu, who hasn't played since breaking his hand in the season opener, is said to be days away from returning to action.
