NEW YORK (AP) Macagone did his daddy proud Saturday, pulling a 34-1 upset in the $150,000 Artie Schiller Stakes on the turf at Aqueduct.

A 5-year-old gelded son of Artie Schiller, winner of the 2005 Breeders' Cup Mile, Macagone beat Blacktype by three-quarters of a length for his seventh win and second stakes victory in 23 starts.

Fourth in the early stages, Macagone emerged with the lead in midstretch and dug in determinedly with Kendrick Carmouche aboard for Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott.

''I fell into the right spot, got a real run and angled out at the top of the lane and he excelled from there and held on,'' Carmouche said.

Carmouche was a late substitute for Chris DeCarlo, who was involved in a spill earlier on the card. DeCarlo was taken to a hospital for observation and missed his remaining mounts.

The time was 1:36.66 for the mile.

Macagone paid $70, $27 and $14.80.

Blacktype returned $5.90 and $3.90 and Night Prowler paid $6.20 to show.
