BEIJING (AP) Kosovo has been accepted as a member of track and field's world governing body.
The IAAF says its ruling council granted the Kosovo Athletic Federation provisional member status ''with full rights and obligations.''
Kosovo, which declared independence from Serbia in 2008, is recognized by more than 100 countries but is not a member of the United Nations.
Kosovo was granted full recognition by the International Olympic Committee last December. A Kosovo team will compete at the Olympics for the first time in Rio de Janeiro next year.
