Kiptoo wins Frankfurt Marathon in Kenyan sweep
FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) Mark Kiptoo led a Kenyan sweep of the top three places at the 33rd Frankfurt Marathon on Sunday.
In ideal conditions, the 2013 runnerup finished in 2 hours, 6 minutes, 49 seconds - 10 seconds ahead of Mike Kigen. Gilbert Yegon was a further nine seconds behind in third.
Ethiopia's Tebalu Zawude and Deribe Robi were fourth and fifth.
It was the 13th consecutive time a Kenyan won this marathon. Kiptoo was well off the course record of 2:03:42 by compatriot Wilson Kipsang in 2011, while defending champion Vincent Kipruto of Kenya finished 13th in 2:12:09.
Aberu Kebede of Ethiopia won the women's race in 2:22:21, ahead of Kenya's Sharon Cherop in 2:23:44 and Ethiopia's Ashetu Bekere in 2:24:59.
Overall, more than 15,000 runners from 101 countries took part.
