LOS ANGELES - Los Angeles Kings television play-by-play announcer Bob Miller will be inducted into the California Sports Hall of Fame on Sunday, February 27, as part of the Class of 2011, that organization announced today.
Miller, who recently won the top TV Play-by-Play award at the Southern California Sports Broadcasters luncheon for the seventh time, will be honored in Ontario on February 27 along with Dick Vermeil (NFL Super Bowl Champ, St. Louis Rams); Mike Haynes (NFL Hall of Famer, Los Angeles Raiders); Ken Norton (WBC Heavyweight Champion, World Boxing Hall of Famer); and Tony Lopez (3-time World Boxing Champion).
The event takes place at the Ontario Convention Center. It begins at 5 p.m. with an induction reception, and at 6 p.m. the induction dinner and ceremony will begin.
Miller is in his 38th season as the "Voice of the Kings." On November 13, 2000, he was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto, where a plaque hangs, as the recipient of the annual Foster Hewitt Memorial Award as selected by the NHL Professional Broadcasters' Association. The award recognizes those members of the radio and television industry who have made outstanding contributions to their profession and the game during their hockey broadcasting careers. On October 2, 2006, Miller received a star on the famous Hollywood Boulevard Walk of Fame. He also that year authored the book, Bob Miller's Tales from the Los Angeles Kings. On February 4, 2002, Miller was inducted into the SCSB Hall of Fame, and he currently serves as that organization's president.
Sports fans and the media are invited to attend the California Sports Hall of Fame's Class of 2011 Induction Ceremony. During this 5th annual induction ceremony, five California sports icons will receive recognition and become a permanent part of California sports history.
Many former inductees will also be in attendance to sign autographs, meet and greet guests and welcome the Class of 2011. Past inductees that have been invited include California sports celebrities such as Earvin "Magic" Johnson, Willie Mays, Reggie Jackson, David "Deacon" Jones, Eric Dickerson, Tommy Lasorda, Dan Fouts, Dave Winfield, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Mike Powell, Tom Flores, Marcus Allen, Cheryl Miller, Karch Kiraly and more.
Plus, guests will have the chance to win rare sports memorabilia during silent and live auctions, with proceeds to benefit thousands of at-risk California children. The California Sports Hall of Fame provides scholarships to disadvantaged student athletes and hosts free athletic clinics for at-risk youth, featuring active and retired professional athletes and Olympians.
