Kidd's advice for Anthony: Stay West

Even if it meant moving to the franchise where he spent more than six seasons, Jason Kidd has some advice for Carmelo Anthony: Don't go East.
The Mavericks point guard spoke to the media, including Eddie Sefko of The Dallas Morning News, before Saturday's game at the New Jersey Nets, for whom Kidd played before he was traded back to the Mavericks. Kidd said he would recommend Anthony remain in the Western Conference.
"If I was his adviser, I wouldn't want him to go East, but if he wants to go back home to New York or if the closest he can get is New Jersey, then you wish him the best,'' Kidd said. "But you look at the Eastern Conference, there's some talent over on this side.''
Depending on what you believe, it's possible that Kidd has been doing some advising after all.
FanHouse's Sam Amick, following up on a Yahoo! Sports report and citing sources, argues that Kidd, in fact, did advise Anthony against going to New Jersey.
Kidd, for his part, said that he barely talks to Anthony and, when he does, it only happens on the court.
"I haven't talked to 'Melo," Kidd said. "The only time I talked to him was when we played him. And that was when I was guarding him and I told him to slow down."
So did he or didn't he?
For the Mavericks, it likely doesn't matter. For one thing, Anthony has made it overtly clear that he wants to be a Knicks player. If the opportunity presents itself, he likely wouldn't let Kidd or anyone deter him from pouncing on it.
