Kenya parliament to debate long-awaited doping law next week
NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) The Kenyan parliament will debate anti-doping legislation next week, as a deadline approaches for the country to fall into line with global rules.
National Assembly speaker Justin Muturi says the proposed law will be debated on Tuesday. He has urged lawmakers to pass it, with little time left before an April 5 deadline set by the World Anti-Doping Agency.
Kenya missed an initial WADA deadline last month and is in danger of being declared non-compliant with the WADA code. That would lead to its new anti-doping agency being suspended and could lead to further action by the IAAF.
Former Boston Marathon champion Wesley Korir, who is a member of parliament, says he fears Kenya will miss the new deadline because of delays over the legislation.
