Joy and Fun has held off a challenge from Fravashi and California Flag to win the $1 million Al Quoz Sprint in the second race on the Dubai World Cup card.
The 6-year-old gelding ridden by Derek Cruz and owned by Hong Kong's Wong Chun Nam took the lead from Fravashi and won by about half a length on Saturday.
The race was the second surprise after the little known Jaafer easily won the opening Dubai Kahayla Classic on the $26 million Dubai World Cup program.
Joy and Fun had struggled in recent weeks, finishing no better than third in its previous four races.
