In the city of Atlanta, Chipper Jones doesn't have to do very much to impress anymore. He played his entire career in Atlanta, set records, won titles, and is one of the biggest fan favorites in Braves' lore.
Jones retired this season, surely on his way to the Hall of Fame in five years, in part because his body couldn't take the wear and tear of a long season.
He no longer wanted to risk more surgery, long road trips, or, perhaps, ever see B.J. Upton again.
In May, Upton drilled a liner off Jones' leg, which caused him to miss a few games. It was listed as "left leg contusion" at the time.
Now we know what that means.
Jones sent out a photo of his injury on Wednesday, displaying a massive bruise that stretches from his feet to his calves. It's less a deep bruise, and more a bad accident with painful purple paint.
Fortunately, Jones decided to leave the bandage on, assuring us we should be glad.
We are, Chipper. All of us are.
