COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- Jack Johnson scored the winner in the ninth round of a shootout and Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 39 shots in regulation and eight in the tiebreaker to give the Columbus Blue Jackets a 3-2 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday night.
Johnson faked a forehand and then jammed in a backhand before Bobrovsky clinched the win by blocking Bryan Bickell's low attempt.
It was the sixth game in a row to go past regulation for the Blue Jackets, who have a nine-game point streak (8-0-1).
Jack Skille and Kevin Connauton scored goals for Columbus. Patrick Sharp and Ben Smith tallied for the Blackhawks, and Corey Crawford made 17 saves.
The Blue Jackets ended a 13-game losing streak (0-10-3) to the Blackhawks.
With the score tied at 1 heading into the third, the Blue Jackets scored on a holdover power play. Connauton's hard, rising shot from the left circle beat Crawford for a 2-1 lead.
The Blackhawks pulled even after a long review in Toronto.
Bobrovsky made the initial save before Chicago's Marcus Kruger -- without a stick -- dove skates first into the net and kicked the puck. But it went off Connauton's stick briefly before Smith, almost behind the cage, reached around to tap it across the goal line at the 8:49 mark.
Not initially ruled a goal, it was overturned and Smith collected his fifth of the season.
Columbus killed two penalties before regulation ended.
Both goalies made huge stops in overtime, Bobrovsky stopping Brandon Saad on a 2-on-1 and Crawford gloving a long slap shot by Cam Atkinson.
Jeremy Morin, acquired in a trade with the Blackhawks on Sunday, scored the first goal of the shootout in the fifth round but Andrew Shaw came right back to extend it.
The Blackhawks swarmed in the opening period, holding the Blue Jackets without a shot for 14 minutes in the middle and outshooting them 15-3.
Yet Bobrovsky turned away several prime scoring chances for Chicago, while Columbus made the most of its only one.
At the 17:24 mark, Fedor Tyutin's hard wrister from the left point was tipped by Ryan Johansen and then redirected in by Skille.
The Blackhawks had a potential goal disallowed at the 4:08 mark. Saad's shot from the left wing was gloved by Bobrovsky. As he skated by the goalie, Chicago's Marian Hossa elbowed the catching glove and knocked the puck loose, then scored. It was immediately waved off by the officials.
Chicago still controlled the pace in the second period, although the Blue Jackets did appear to be more aggressive and active in initiating their offense.
Sharp evened it up at the 7:27 mark, scoring on a 2-on-1 when his wrister from the left dot beat Bobrovsky high on his glove side.
Bobrovsky kept it tied the rest of the period with a sparkling toe save on Kris Versteeg and two stops in a short span against Sharp.
