Jerry Jones on Dez Bryant contract talks
OXNARD, Calif. -- Dez Bryant didn't have much to say about Tyron Smith receiving a long-term contract extension on Wednesday.
Bryant posted a tweet earlier in the day that said: "Congrats 77. Well deserved."
After practice, Bryant declined interview requests, saying everything he had to say on Smith's contract was already posted to his Twitter account.
Bryant is entering the final year of his rookie contract. Cowboys chief operating officer Stephen Jones said Wednesday that the club is "totally committed to making Dez a Cowboy for life."
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was cautious with his words while talking about Bryant's contract negotiations following Wednesday's afternoon practice.
"I don't ever talk about proximity or where we are in a negotiation," Jerry said.
Is he willing to have that negotiation continue on during the season?
"I wouldn't comment on any of our contracts in negotiation," he responded.
Are conversations with Bryant's representatives still open and cooperative?
"There's certainly communication, but I wouldn't comment on that," Jerry said. "It wouldn't be good for anybody for us to make an assessment now."
