Jamie Benn's power-play goal breaks tie, Stars beat Jets 6-3
DALLAS (AP) -- Jamie Benn scored the tiebreaking goal on a third-period power play and the Dallas Stars went on to beat the Winnipeg Jets 6-3 on Thursday night.
Benn gathered in the rebound of Tyler Seguin's one-timer from the left faceoff circle and tucked a wrist shot inside the right goal post past Ondrej Pavelec at 14:05.
Antoine Roussel and Vernon Fiddler added empty-net goals. Ales Hemsky had a goal and two assists. John Klingberg and Colton Sceviour had a goal and an assist, and Seguin and Johnny Oduya each had two assists for the stars.
Dallas goalie Kari Lehtonen made 35 saves, including 32 of Winnipeg's last 33 shots, for his fourth consecutive win. Pavelec had 28 saves.
Tyler Myers' first goal this season had tied the game 3-3 at 9:17 of the third.
Blake Wheeler and Jacob Trouba scored 18 seconds apart in the first period to give the Jets a 2-1 lead.
Sceviour's first goal of the season for Dallas tied the score at 2 at 12:38 of the first.
The Stars took a 3-2 lead on Hemsky's breakaway at 3:50 of the second period.
On Tuesday, the Stars lost 3-2 to Toronto after leading 2-1 early in the third, and appeared to be heading in that direction until Benn scored.
The opening minutes were action-packed.
Winnipeg went on the power play just 13 seconds into the game.
Barely 2 minutes later, the Stars had a power play. Eight seconds in at 2:32, Klingberg sent a slap shot from the top of the slot past Pavelec.
The Jets countered quickly. Wheeler scored on a wrist shot from low in the left faceoff circle to just inside the near post at 4:13. Trouba wristed in a loose puck just in front of the net 18 seconds later for his first goal of the season.
With Lehtonen out of the net on a power play 9 minutes into the period, defenseman Jason Demers blocked Andrew Ladd's shot with his leg near the net.
Sceviour tied the game for Dallas with his first goal at 12:38 of the first period. Johnny Oduya's shot hit the crossbar and went out front to Sceviour, who settled the puck and backhanded it between Pavelec's legs.
The Stars took a 3-2 lead on Hemsky's breakaway at 3:50 of the second. He moved in on Pavelec and sent a low wrist shot to the right of the goalie's attempt at a skate save.
Winnipeg had good chances on the power play midway through the period, but Lehtonen stopped an in-close backhand by Ladd and kicked away a redirected shot.
Dallas killed a 4-minute power play after Tyler Seguin's double-minor penalty for high sticking midway through the third period.
