The maturation of Ohio State freshman quarterback J.T. Barrett continued Saturday against Rutgers, earning him a couple more notches on his belt from the Big Ten this week.

Barrett was awarded the conference's Offensive Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week honors for his impressive performance, in which he piled up 369 yards of total offense and five touchdowns.

Versatility has been a boon for Barrett, who put that into action in taking down the Scarlet Knights, throwing for 261 of his 369 yards, while also rushing for 107 yards on only 7 carries.

Barrett previously won the conference's weekly offensive award after his six-touchdown, 300-yard game in a 66-0 mauling of Kent State. He was named top freshman following another 300-yard performancem, with four touchdowns thrown, in a 50-28 win over in-state foe Cincinnati.

Perhaps the most important stat for Barrett in the last four games is something he hasn't done. After throwing three interceptions in the Buckeyes' only loss of the season, a 35-21 home defeat to Virginia Tech, Barrett has since thrown only one pick.

Circumstances won't get easier though as the Buckeyes have two tough road contests coming up in the next three weeks, first against Penn State Saturday, then in East Lansing on Nov. 8.
