On Monday, reports swirled that the Texas Legends, the D-League affiliate of the Dallas Mavericks, were courting 37-year-old Allen Iverson to join the team and give him a chance to resurrect his NBA career.
On Tuesday, the Legends got an answer from "The Answer."
"I thank Donnie and Dallas for the consideration and while I think the D-League is a great opportunity, it is not the route for me," Iverson tweeted on his account, @alleniverson.
Iverson continued: "I realize my actions contributed to my early departure from the NBA, should God provide me another opportunity I will give it my all."
Iverson last played in the NBA during the 2009-10 season. He appeared in three games with the Memphis Grizzlies before being waived. His short stretch with the Grizzlies was marked by a hamstring injury — and by Iverson grumbling about his minutes and having to come off the bench. Iverson then signed with the Philadelphia 76ers, for whom he played in 25 games.
Although he turned down the D-League invite, Iverson — an 11-time All-Star — still hopes to complete his career with one last NBA run.
"My dream has always been to complete my legacy in the NBA," Iverson tweeted. "To my fans, I love yall! Not a day goes by that I am not asked when am I coming back, we all must accept my return is not up to just me."
