Injury stops comeback of pole vault record-holder Isinbayeva
MOSCOW (AP) Pole vault world record-holder Yelena Isinbayeva has been forced to delay her comeback after injuring her Achilles tendon at her first competition.
Isinbayeva was due to compete at a Russian domestic event in her home city of Volgograd on Saturday but pulled her Achilles in the warmup, her coach Evgeny Trofimov told the Tass agency.
The injury will end Isinbayeva's indoor season, but she could yet compete in the summer, Trofimov added.
She has not competed since winning the world title in Moscow in 2013, but is targeting a third career Olympic gold medal in Rio de Janeiro in August.
Besides her fitness, Isinbayeva's Olympic dream will depend on whether Russia is readmitted to global athletics following the suspension imposed in November for widespread doping.
