Indians promote Salazar from Columbus

CLEVELAND, OH - The Cleveland Indians today announced the following roster moves relative to the Major League roster:
Recalled RHP DANNY SALAZAR (#31) from the Triple-A Columbus Clippers.
Optioned RHP PRESTON GUILMET to AAA Columbus.



Salazar, 23, will be making his Major League debut in a start today vs. the Toronto Blue Jays. He has split the 2013 season between AA Akron and AAA Columbus where he has gone a combined 5-5 with a 3.08 ERA in 17 starts (76.0IP, 61H, 26ER, 4HR, 23BB, 100K, .221AVG).  He has fanned 11.8 batters per 9.0IP, owns a strikeout to walk ratio of 4.35 and leads all Indians farmhands with 100 punch outs.
After beginning the season at Akron (2-3, 2.67ERA, 7GS) he has posted a mark of 3-2 with a 3.40 ERA in 10 starts for the Clippers (42.1IP, 34H, 16ER, 13BB, 49K), is coming off Indians Minor League Player of the Week honors (10.0IP, 3H, 0R, 1BB, 10K) and hasn’t yielded an earned run over his last 16.0 innings.  Originally signed as a non-drafted free agent by Cleveland in 2006, Salazar entered the 2013 season ranked as the 7th best prospect in the Indians system according to Baseball America.
Guilmet was promoted from AAA Columbus on July 7 and made his Major League debut last night vs. Toronto (0.2IP, 0H, 0R, 1K).
