I Will Score wins Lazaro Barrera by a neck at Santa Anita
ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) I Will Score won the $100,000 Lazaro Barrera Stakes for 2-year-olds by a neck Saturday at Santa Anita.
Ridden by Martin Garcia, I Will Score ran seven furlongs in 1:21.30 and paid $8.80, $4.40 and $3.20 as the 3-1 second choice in the Grade 3 race. The colt earned his first stakes win for trainer Jerry Hollendorfer.
Mrazek returned $3.60 and $3, while Smokey Image was another 3 1/4 lengths back in third and paid $3.80 to show.
Mrazek is owned by J. Paul Reddam, trained by Doug O'Neill and ridden by Mario Gutierrez, the team behind recent Kentucky Derby winner Nyquist.
Denman's Call, the 8-5 favorite also trained by O'Neill, finished fifth in the field of seven.
The victory, worth $60,000, increased I Will Score's career earnings to $173,145, with three wins in six starts.
In the $75,000 Singletary Stakes, 3-5 favorite Arcature won by a head over Tristan's Trilogy.
Ridden by Flavien Prat and trained by Simon Callaghan, Arcature ran a mile on turf in 1:35.95.
It was Arcature's first stakes win and second victory in four career starts.
