HS basketball team involved in bus crash
Seventeen people were hospitalized Tuesday night after a pickup truck and a car were involved in a collision with a bus carrying a group of girls belonging to a Maryland high school basketball team.
The collision occurred on a highway near Chaptico, Md., about 50 miles (80 kilometers) south of Washington D.C., about 9:30 p.m. local time, with the bus leaving the road and finishing up in the woods.
The bus, which was carrying 28 students and four adult passengers, was returning from a scrimmage when the crash occurred.
Those injured -- 15 students, one adult aboard the bus and the bus driver -- were taken to the St. Mary's Hospital. All students were discharged early Wednesday, according to a police statement. The conditions of the two adults were not immediately known.
Police said the driver of the pickup, John Patrick Kravats, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. Kravats suffered minor injuries as a result of the collision.
