DETROIT -- If you’re going to the Detroit-Philadelphia game on Saturday night at Joe Louis Arena, you’ll notice that Wings goalie Jimmy Howard has added another color to his uniform.

Howard will be sporting a pink mask, along with pink accents on his blocker, glove and, hopefully, his pads.

“(It's) for breast cancer, my way to try and help out,” Howard said. “I’m supposed to have the pads, supposed to have pink everything, but the pads haven’t arrived yet, so we’ll see when they get here even if I wear them now.’’

Pads usually take some time to break in, which has Howard concerned.

"We’ll see how they feel Friday in practice and Saturday morning in pregame skate, but there might not be enough time to break them in," Howard said. "I’m hoping I’ll be able to wear them.’’

Like many of us, breast cancer has touched Howard’s life, and he’s committed to help out in any way he can.

“There have been women I’ve known (with breast cancer) that have been part of my family," Howard said. "So it means a lot to be able to do something like this.’’
