Hernandez not drug tested, spends time doing pushups
By Ross Jones, FOXSports.com Americans are getting ready to celebrate the Fourth of July, but for Aaron Hernandez, Thursday will be like any other day in jail, Bristol County Sheriff Thomas M. Hodgson said in a telephone interview with FOXSports.com. Since being detained last week, Hernandez has been “respectful, polite and does not appear to be nervous.” FOXSports.com’s Peter Schrager details Hernandez’s daily routine and privileges in prison. Reports have surfaced that one of Hernandez’s buddies provided authorities with information about a secret flop house. Since then, cops have cited cocaine in Hernandez’s court papers. Hodgson said Hernandez has not been drug tested because there was no indication he was on anything. Since there were no immediate concerns and he was acting normal, the facility didn’t have probable cause to test Hernandez. The former Patriots tight end spends his time secluded from other inmates and uses his one-man cell as an area for pushups and other exercises. Another law enforcement official said that the facility has been fielding multiple phone calls about Hernandez, including one from a woman in Texas who was interested in sending him money. The money could be used to order from the canteen once a week where he can buy goods such as candy. When asked if Hernandez is the highest-profile inmate the jail has ever seen, Hodgson said that Lizzie Borden was “right up there.” Of course, Borden was eventually acquitted after being accused of axe murder in 1893.
