Heat waive Andre Dawkins ahead of non-guaranteed contract deadline
The Miami Heat have released guard Andre Dawkins ahead of Wednesday's deadline to waive non-guaranteed contracts before they become guaranteed for the rest of the season.
Dawkins signed with the Heat on Sept. 23 and made the opening day roster. He totaled three points, two rebounds and an assist in 22 minutes in four games.
Though he wasn't able to play consistent minutes in Miami, he played well for the Sioux Falls Skyforce after being assigned to the Heat's D-League affiliate in early December. In one memorable game against the Texas Legends on Dec. 20, he scored 42 points on 12-of-15 shooting from beyond the arc to set a team record.
Coupled with the release of Shannon Brown on Nov. 24 to make room on the roster for center Hassan Whiteside, the Heat are now thin at shooting guard behind Dwyane Wade.
Whiteside and fellow center Justin Hamilton also have non-guaranteed contracts.
