Hard Enough took the lead near the top of the stretch and drew off to win the $60,000 Jersey Derby at Monmouth Park on Saturday, beating Reporting Star by 1 1/2 lengths.

Ridden by Paco Lopez and trained by Bobby Dibona, Hard Enough ran 1/16 miles on the firm turf course in 1:41 and returned $26.60, $9.60 and $5.40. The win was the third in 14 career starts for the 3-year-old colt.

Reporting Star returned $5.20 and $3.20, while betting favorite Shining Copper was a half-length back in third and paid $2.60.

The Jersey Derby dates to 1864, which track officials say makes it the oldest derby contested in North America.
