MINNEAPOLIS -- Two days after his college hockey career ended, Gophers senior Tom Serratore signed an amateur tryout contract with the American Hockey League's Adirondack Phantoms.
Serratore, a Colorado native, scored three goals and added four assists during his senior season with the University of Minnesota. He'll join the Phantoms -- the top farm team of the Philadelphia Flyers -- for their final four games of the season.
"Tom has definitely earned this opportunity, and we are thrilled he is going to be able to go on and play at the professional level," Gophers head coach Don Lucia said in a statement. "Like all of our seniors, Tom has been a great program guy for us. He has worked hard since the day he arrived on campus, and he has done everything we have asked of him during his time here."
The 6-foot, 192-pound Serratore was one of only a handful of undrafted players on the Gophers' 2013-14 roster. His best year with Minnesota came last year as a junior when he scored seven goals and had one assist while playing in all 40 of the Gophers' games. His father, Frank, is currently the head coach at Air Force, and his uncle, Tom, is the head coach at Bemidji State.
