The Minnesota Gophers basketball team may have had their biggest victory in the four years under head coach Tubby Smith when they defeated #8 North Carolina 72-67. The victory lifts them into the Puerto Rico Tip-Off championship game Sunday versus West Virginia.
Neither team was ranked in the preseason poll, but expect both teams to make an appearance next week.
Minnesota was ranked #30 Associated Press Poll and #28 in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll, while West Virginia was #28 in the AP poll and #32 by the the ESPN/USA Today Coaches. .
