Gonzalez leaves game early with hand injury
Milwaukee Brewers third baseman Alex Gonzalez left Friday's game against St. Louis after being hit on his left hand by a pitch.
X-rays on Gonzalez's hand were negative, and the Brewers announced he left the game with a left hand contusion. Gonzalez was hit by a 92-mph fastball from Cardinals right-hander Shelby Miller in the second inning but stayed in the game before coming out before the bottom of the third inning.
Though the injury very easily could have been a lot worse, Gonzalez is now added to the long list of Brewers who are hurting. With Aramis Ramirez on the 15-day disabled list, Gonzalez was filling in at third base after starting the season filling in at first base for the injured Corey Hart.
The veteran is hitting .138 with one home run and four RBI this season.
On Friday, first baseman Yuniesky Betancourt shifted over to third base, and Blake Lalli entered the game at first base.
