NEW YORK (AP) Free agent pitcher Enrique Garcia has been suspended for 50 games under baseball's minor league drug program for a second positive test for a drug of abuse.
The commissioner's office said Tuesday that Garcia's suspension will start when he signs with another major league organization.
The 24-year-old left-hander was 5-3 with a 5.23 ERA in 40 relief appearances last year for Arizona's Visalia farm team in the Class A California League and was released last month. The Diamondbacks signed him in 2013, and he was 7-2 with a 2.25 ERA in 35 appearances that year for South Bend of the Class A Midwest League.
Garcia became the first player penalized this year under the minor league program. There were 66 suspensions last year.
