On November 18, with 500 days to Opening Day at the New Ballpark, the Marlins hosted a neighborly celebratory Thanksgiving Distribution. The Florida Marlins donated over 500 Thanksgiving meals to families in Little Havana. Receiving families were chosen by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Miami and Abriendo Puertas. Each family received a turkey, fixings and desserts for their Thanksgiving meal. The families were chosen based on financial need.
