Florida LB Dante Fowler named SEC defensive player of week
University of Florida linebacker Dante Fowler Jr. earned the Southeastern Conference Defensive Player of the Week honor for his performance in the 31-17 win over Tennessee.
A sophomore, Fowler led Florida with three tackles for a loss, including the only sack of the game. He also forced two fumbles and recovered one of them, the other eventually led to a field goal for the Gators.
Fowler helped lead the Florida defense as they held Tennessee to just 66 rushing yards, a season low for the Volunteers. He also helped the Gators hold Tennessee to two consecutive three-and-outs in the first half.
And Fowler was also a key part of a Florida defense that held Tennessee to negative yardage on four of its first five drives in addition to seven of 13 Volunteer drives resulting in two yards or less.
The Gators travel to Lexington, Ky., to take on Kentucky (1-2, 0-0 SEC) at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
