Florida A&M reports multiple secondary violations to NCAA
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) Florida A&M University has announced several self-imposed penalties and sanctions relating to secondary violations of NCAA rules.
Athletic director Milton Overton Jr. said in a release Monday that the department failed to properly administer student-athlete eligibility and other requirements between 2010-11 and 2013-14. An investigation was conducted by the university, the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference and the NCAA.
The school has placed itself on three years of probation but expects the NCAA to announce an additional year since they were identified in a 2006 report.
FAMU will not lose scholarships, suspend coaches or have any postseason bans extended.
Football is banned this season from competing in the Football Championship Subdivision playoffs due to Academic Progress Rates below the NCAA baseline. FAMU will also pay a one-time fine of $153,255.
