FIU rolls to an 80-72 win at UTSA
SAN ANTONIO (AP) - Dennis Mavin led five Florida International players in double-figure scoring and the Golden Panthers rolled to an 80-72 win at Texas-San Antonio Thursday night.
FIU led by six at the half and carried a 10-point lead through the second half to push their season record past the .500 mark. The Golden Panthers lost their only other meeting with the Roadrunners, losing 71-65 in 2001.
Edrico McGregor converted a three-point play and added a dunk in the final minute to pull the Roadrunners within eight points.
Tynell Murphy scored 13 points and Rakeem Buckles had 12 with 10 rebounds for Florida International (13-12, 5-5 Conference USA). Dominique Williams and Cody Mann added 11 and 10 points, respectively.
McGregor scored 16 points to lead Texas-San Antonio (7-16, 3-7). Devon Aqusi and Keon Lewis added 13 and 12 points, respectively, and Jordan Sims pulled down 10 rebounds.
