First female Big 12 official to work Kansas game
DALLAS -- Catherine Conti will become the first female official in a Big 12 game when she works the Sept. 6 game between Kansas and Southeast Missouri State.
Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby said Conti wasn't selected for the game because of her gender, but because she had paid her dues.
According to a FOXSports.com, story Conti will also serve as an official for the Southland Conference this fall.
"She's a darn good official," Bowlsby said. "It's a good opportunity for her and for us. And I don't think you'll really notice much about how the officiating is done on the game."
Kansas head coach Charlie Weis said he’ll be on his best behavior for the game.
"I'll try to watch my language," Weis said. "I believe in the old-fashioned way so I'll try not to use as many bad words. But it means nothing to me. It’s great that a woman is put in a position where she can be put on equal footing with the men. And if I said other than that, I'd be in trouble with my wife. So all power to her. And that’s an honest answer."
