FC Dallas winger Fabian Castillo has signed a contract extension with MLS to remain with the club through the 2019 season.

Castillo and FCD reached the five-year accord after the 22-year-old Colombian youth international established himself as one of the league's premier wide players last season.

"We're very excited to have secured the services of Fabian Castillo for the future," FC Dallas technical director Fernando Clavijo said in a statement. "He is the future of this franchise. He is a player we have been able to help grow. We also believe he has yet to achieve his full potential. FC Dallas has a more mature and complete player in Fabian today than we did a few years ago, but each year he remains with FC Dallas, the better he will become."

Those words ring true after the strides made a season ago. The former Deportivo Cali player posted a career-high 10 goals for Oscar Pareja's side in 2014 and unsettled defenses consistently with his pace and his improved precision in the final third.

It marked a long-awaited breakout year for the previously inconsistent figure. FCD splashed the cash on him back in 2011 and waited patiently as he worked through the foibles of adjusting to the league and finding a way to influence matches regularly.

Everything came together for the promising winger last season. He subsequently fielded interest from European sides, but he opted to stay the course in Frisco and pledge his future to FCD instead.
