Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Additions August 23rd
If you're new to this feature, here are the ground rules.
No player in this space will be mentioned in back-to-back weeks, as we don't want to spam you with the same choices over and over again. We'll also limit the waiver wire suggestions to players owned in fewer than 40 percent of FOXSports.com leagues. Got it? Let's get to this week's pickups:
Catcher
Gary Sanchez, NYY (38.4% owned)
He's had an absolutely insane start to his career, slashing .385/.429/.831 in his first 65 at-bats. Sanchez has shown real power, as he has 6 HR in his last seven games. It's hard to find such a powerful bat at the catcher position, so Sanchez is a must-add.
First Baseman
Chris Carter, MIL (38.1% owned)
The batting average won't help you, but the power sure will. Carter has 5 HR over his last 14 days and is crushing it when he's at home this year. He's flawed because of the strikeouts and low batting average, but he's a reliable option with proven home run power.
Second Baseman
Yangervis Solarte, SD (22.6% owned)
We've had him here before, but his dual position eligibility and the fact that he won't hurt you in any area makes him an easy bench add. He's slashing .285/.351/.481 this year and won't miss many games due to his switch-hitting ability.
Third Baseman
Danny Valencia, OAK (34.9% owned)
Valencia is slashing .390/.432/.537 over the last 14 days, and we know he's a must-play anytime he gets a matchup with a southpaw. I will never understand why Valencia is owned below 40 percent, but I'll keep listing him here because he absolutely deserves a spot on your fantasy roster.
Shortstop
Eugenio Suarez, CIN (37.9% owned)
He's slashing .333/.372/.542 during the month of August, and adds power at a position where it's often tough to find. Suarez plays in a friendly home park, and bats around some great hitters. With a little bit of speed sprinkled in, he makes for a fine fantasy shortstop.
Outfield
Alex Gordon, KC (38.1% owned)
Gordon is crushing the ball as of late, hitting five home runs over his last seven games. Gordon is slashing .386/.471/.795 over the last 14 days and is worth owning as he raises his average back up to where it has been in the past. Ride him while he's hot.
Starting Pitcher
Chad Green, NYY (22.9% owned)
In his last two starts, Green has racked up 16 strikeouts in 12 IP with just 1 ER. The strikeout power has been on display, and he's played his way into a regular rotation spot. Keep rolling with the rookie until major league teams figure him out.
Relief Pitcher
Kelvin Herrera, KC (24.4% owned)
Herrera has taken over the closer role in Kansas City and is dominating in it. He's up to 70 K in 55 IP, with a low ERA of 1.94 and a WHIP of 0.86. The flamethrower is awfully tough to hit, and he should have plenty of save opportunities down the stretch.
