A former pitcher drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1988 has acknowledged in a plea agreement he sold copyrighted karaoke music and didn't report the sales to the IRS.
William S. Bene (beh-NAY') is charged with one count of criminal copyright infringement and one count of filing a false tax return. According to the plea agreement, between 2006 and 2010, Bene sold hard drives with unauthorized copies of karaoke music and karaoke jukeboxes, but did not report some $600,000 in gross sales over the four years on his income tax returns.
His attorney, Mark Hathaway, says Bene has accepted full responsibility.
Bene was selected fifth overall by the Dodgers in the first round of the 1988 amateur draft. He could face up to eight years in prison.
