England wins toss and bats in 4th test vs. India
MUMBAI, India (AP) England won the toss on Thursday and opted to bat in the fourth test against India in Mumbai.
India made two changes to their line-up from the third test: Ajinkya Rahane was out of the last two tests of the series after suffering a broken finger in the nets on Wednesday, while Mohammed Shami was rested due to a sore left knee.
Fit-again Lokesh Rahul came into the eleven to open the innings, allowing Parthiv Patel to move down the order, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar replaced Shami.
Karun Nair retained his spot in the middle order, with India retaining a five-bowler combination.
England also made two changes: Keaton Jennings replaced the injured Haseeb Hameed and was named for his test debut opening the innings with captain Alastair Cook.
Right-arm paceman Jake Ball replaced Gareth Batty. Stuart Broad was not yet fit, while England opted for only two spinners for the first time in this series.
The pitch at the Wankhede Stadium is usually fairly balanced but should take more turn that the pitches in the first three tests.
India leads the five-match series 2-0.
