PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) Olympic decathlon champion Ashton Eaton needed stitches to close a cut after being hit in the head with the bar from the pole vault at the U.S. indoor championships Friday night.

Eaton took part in a 60-meter dash heat and the long jump at the indoors as a warmup for next weekend's world championships, where he'll compete in the heptathlon. He finished last in his heat for the 60 and sixth in the long jump.

Eaton got hit in the head with the bar that was next to the lane for the long jump at the Oregon Convention Center. He reappeared with a bandage on his head.

''I'm still waiting for pictures from when I had blood all over my hands and face. Someone has to have them,'' he posted to Twitter, along with photos of his wrapped head.
