Early performance review on Brewers' trade-deadline acquisitions

Published Aug. 7, 2015 12:20 p.m. ET

Never mind the saying gone and not forgotten, how about here and not forgotten.

The Milwaukee Brewers made several deals before the non-waiver trading deadline. However, unlike the clubs that got players from the Brewers, none of the players Milwaukee got in return are playing in the major leagues. So it is easy to forget -- even one week later -- about the assets the Brewers got back.

Here's a quick look at what the newest Brewers minor leaguers did in the past week.

Yhonathan Barrios

Barrios actually was acquired a week earlier than the others, as he was acquired from Pittsburgh for Aramis Ramirez on July 23. Barrios has pitched four games out of the bullpen at Double-A Biloxi. His pitching line: 4 games, 4 1/3 innings, 5 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk, 3 strikeouts, 2 saves, 0.00 ERA, 1.38 WHIP, .294 opponent batting average.

Malik Collymore

Collymore, obtained from St. Louis for Jonathan Broxton, was sent to Class A Helena, played one game . . . and then saw the league go on its All-Star break. In his two games (play resumed Thursday), Collymore has batted second and played left field both times. His batting line: 3 for 9, 1 double, 1 walk, 4 strikeouts, 0 runs, 2 RBI, 1 caught stealing, 333/400/444.

Zach Davies

Davies was sent to Triple-A Colorado Springs, where he made one start and earned a win. He came over from Baltimore in the Gerardo Parra trade. There was some speculation he might end up in the bullpen, but, for now, he's starting. "I am pretty happy about this new beginning," he told the Colorado Springs Gazette before his initial appearance. "I will just do whatever it is wherever it is they want me." His pitching line from Aug. 5 at Oklahoma City:  6 innings, 6 hits, 1 run, 3 walks, 7 strikeouts, 100 pitches with 64 thrown for strikes.

Josh Hader

Hader was sent to Double-A Biloxi where he made one start, getting the win on Aug. 4 at Mobile. His pitching line: 5 innings, 1 hit, 0 runs, 1 walk, 9 strikeouts (one off his career high), 73 pitches with 55 for strikes.

Adrian Houser

Houser is also in the rotation at Double-A Biloxi. He made his initial, and so far only, start Aug. 3 at Mobile. He did not record a decision. His pitching line: 5 2/3 innings, 7 hits, 3 runs, 1 home run, 0 walks, 6 strikeouts, 87 pitches with 64 for strikes.

Brett Phillips

Phillips, who came over from Houston in the Carlos Gomez/Mike Fiers deal, might be the jewel of Milwaukee's trade haul. He has played in six games for Biloxi from Aug. 1-6, batting leadoff and playing center field each time. His batting line: 5 for 20, 4 runs, 0 RBI, 1 double, 1 triple, 6 walks, 6 strikeouts, 1 caught stealing, 250/423/400.

Domingo Santana

If you are wondering who among the trade acquisitions might see the major leagues first, Santana is a good guess. He's already seen brief time in Houston in his young career and is playing at Triple-A Colorado Springs. Santana, also known for striking out a lot, knows he has things to work on before making it to Milwaukee. "It's a fresh start," he told the Colorado Springs Gazette. "The goal remains the same. Show them what I can do and make the big club. I just need to go out, have fun and do my job. I need to work on shortening my swing and making contact more often."  Santana has played five games for the SkySox from Aug. 2-6. He has mostly batted fifth and played left field, although he did bat fourth and play right field once each. His batting line: 9 for 22, 4 runs, 6 RBI, 1 double, 1 triple, 0 walks, 8 strikeouts, .409/.435/.545.
