Early exits: Jason Heyward and Jayson Werth are two notable outfield injuries

Published Jul. 29, 2014 6:52 a.m. ET

Two fantasy outfielders - not stars, but pretty close - are day to day after being removed from their Monday games. Braves OF Jason Heyward was taken out of Monday afternoon's game due to lower back soreness. After the game, manager Fredi Gonzalez said, "hopefully we get him back in the next couple days."

Nationals OF Jayson Werth sprained his ankle in the seventh inning of Monday's loss to the Marlins. The Nats don't seem worried, and seem to think Werth will be ready to play tonight. Stay tuned.

Monday's studs & duds

Stud: Ervin Santana mowed down the Padres, throwing eight scoreless innings and striking out 11 batters.

Stud: Ruth, Gehrig, DiMaggio, Mantle ... Brett Gardner? The Yankee speedster hit his 11th and 12th home runs of the season, and is now five-for-11 with four homers in his career against Rangers' ace Yu Darvish.

Stud: Blue Jays OF Melky Cabrera hit two homers and knocked in five runs during his team's rout of Clay Buchholz (dud) and the Red Sox.

Dud: Nats' closer Rafael Soriano allowed four runs to the Marlins in a spectacularly awful blown save.

Dud: Oh-for-six with four strikeouts? Come on, Todd Frazier.

News & notes

The A's hope to get MRI results today for Coco Crisp's neck injury, and placed OF Craig Gentry on the DL with a broken hand. If you'd like to play center field tonight for the A's, simply showing up at Houston's Minute Maid Park by 4 p.m. should give you a 50-50 shot.

The Blue Jays acquired 3B Danny Valencia from the Royals. Valencia figures to play quite a bit until Brett Lawrie returns from the DL, and could be a righty platoon bat after that. Valencia's departure from Kansas City could mean everyday at bats for Mike Moustakas.

The Jays are also hoping for 1B/DH Adam Lind to come off the DL later this week.

Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira (back) made a pinch-hitting appearance on Monday, and hopes to be back in the lineup tonight.

Giants 1B Brandon Belt passed a concussion test on Monday, and could begin baseball activities soon. It sounds like he could return in a week or so.

Neftali Feliz got another save on Monday. In two successful opportunities since Joakim Soria got traded, Feliz has faced eight batters. He's allowed one hit and one walk, with no strikeouts. Hmm ...

The Marlins recalled speedy OF Jake Marisnick from Triple A, but will probably use him as a reserve. Boooooo ...

Bartolo Colon had a strong outing against the Phillies, raising our record to 61-44 for the season. Today's pick is Colorado's Jorge De La Rosa (owned in 25.1 percent of FOXSports.com leagues) at Chicago, while Wednesday's selection is Padre lefty Jesse Hahn (38.3 percent owned) versus the Cardinals. Hahn's 2.12 ERA is only part mirage - he's pretty good.

See you back here tomorrow morning.
