Drummond invited to compete for spot on US National Team
Andre Drummond might be headed to Rio.
The Pistons center was one of 28 players invited to compete for spots on the US National Team for this summer's World Championships in Spain and the 2016 Summer Olympics in Brazil. He was the only Piston to make the pool, as an inconsistent start to the season probably knocked Greg Monroe out of contention.
"I'm extremely honored to be selected along with this talented group of players for an opportunity to represent my country," Drummond said in a statement released by the Pistons. "I look forward to competing and representing our fans the right way."
Drummond is averaging 12.6 points and 12.6 rebounds for the Pistons this season, while shooting over 60 percent from the floor. The only other players in NBA history to average those numbers for a full season are Dwight Howard and Wilt Chamberlain.
Drummond currently leads the NBA in offensive rebounds, is third in total rebounds and shooting percentage and sixth in blocks.
