DraftKings MLB Picks For October 10
This is the last time for the 2016 baseball season that we will have more than two games in a DraftKings tournament. The Texas Rangers are going home after being swept by the Blue Jays, and all six surviving teams are in action on Columbus Day because of a rainout yesterday.
One bad play wont even ruin your lineup anymore. Mine for Saturday had Kyle Hendricks and Tanner Roark, who got three points combined, yet I still placed 41st because I had the right hitters and all of the starting pitchers struggled. This is the point where past stats can come in very handy when building your DraftKings lineup.
NOTE: these picks are based solely on statistics. Some players have never faced their opponents, or have very little experience against them. I am not saying that none of those are good picks. The highest scorer of the day could be someone with no experience against his opponent. This is based on statistical analysis only. If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players. Check out this post from Matt McGarvey for great tips about whether to use a hot player in DFS or not.
Kenta Maeda‘s first taste of the Washington Nationals will come in the postseason. He has a great matchup against Gio, but he still doesn’t go deep into games. Is he worth $7,900?

Best Bets:
Madison Bumgarner ($12,300): If you had to win one game in baseball right now, who would you want as your starting pitcher? You can have the field, I’m taking Bumgarner. His home playoff numbers aren’t as good as his other-worldly road playoff numbers, but I will still take him. Call it a hunch. It doesn’t matter who he’s facing. But for good measure, the Cubbies are only hitting .211 in 161 at bats with two homers, 11 runs, and 46 strikeouts.
Jake Arrieta ($9,800): Arrieta has absolutely dominated the Giants in his career. They are just 22-110(.200) with no homers and just six runs! The 28 strikeouts is a solid total as well. We could be in for another great postseason pitching duel. There is nothing that says we can’t pit opposing pitchers against each other in DraftKings. In fact, it can pay off quite well like it did with MadBum and Noah Syndergaard in the wild card round. It may pay off here as well.
Honorable Mention:
Gio Gonzalez ($7,300): Using a guy with a 4.57 ERA in the regular season may seem like a recipe for disaster in the postseason, but the Dodgers have really struggled against Gonzalez. They are just 23-141(.163) with only one home run and 14 runs scored. The 36 strikeouts leave him a notch below the elite tier, but if he registers outs the way he has in his career against the Dodgers, none of us will mind.
Josh Tomlin ($7,100): The Red Sox are only hitting .229 against Tomlin in 83 at bats, but they do have four homers. Tomlin has limited the damage though. Boston has only scored seven runs against him. Where you really lose out with Tomlin is the strikeouts. He only has 13 punchouts in those 83 at bats.

Coco Crisp ($3,600) is 5-18(.278) with two walks, a homer, and five RBI against Clay Buchholz. Jason Kipnis ($4,900) has four hits in eight at bats with two walks, a double, a homer, and four RBI. Mike Napoli ($3,800) only has three hits in 15 at bats, but he has three walks and a solo homer. Carlos Santana ($4,800) is cranking out the hits against Buchholz as well. Santana has four in eight tries with three walks, two doubles, a homer, and four RBI.
Jason Heyward ($2,700) only has three hits in 15 at bats against Madison Bumgarner, but he has a walk, a homer, and five RBI. David Ross ($2,900) only has two hits in nine at bats, but one is a solo homer. Ben Zobrist ($3,500) has six hits in 12 tries with a walk, a double, a triple, and a RBI against MadBum.
Angel Pagan ($3,700) is 5-11 with a double against Jake Arrieta. The rest of the team is 16-99(.161).
David Ortiz ($5,000) is just 3-17(.176) against Josh Tomlin, but all three hits are home runs and he has driven in six. Jackie Bradley Jr ($3,800) has three hits in seven tries with a solo home run.
Carlos Ruiz ($2,900) is 7-29(.241) with three walks, three doubles, a homer, and five RBI against Gio Gonzalez. He is definitely worth the price if he starts. Howie Kendrick ($3,200) is 5-23(.217) with four walks, a double, and two RBI. Justin Turner ($4,400) and Chase Utley ($3,800) have a combined five RBI against Gio Gonzalez, but they are only 5-39 lifetime against him.
Good luck out there, and check out our picks for the NFL!
