Dominguez suffered fractured skull
The agent for jockey Ramon Dominguez says the nation's leading rider has suffered a fractured skull after being involved in a spill during the seventh race at Aqueduct Racetrack on Friday.
Agent Steve Rushing said Dominguez's wife, Sharon, told him that results of a CT scan revealed the skull fracture. Rushing says he's been told the next ''24 to 48 hours can be critical.''
Dominguez was taken from the track by ambulance to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where he was listed in stable condition.
It's unclear how long he would remain hospitalized, or when he would be able to ride again.
Dominguez was aboard the 4-5 favorite Convocation, who was racing behind horses when the field moved to the top of the stretch. That's when Convocation clipped heels with Sovereign Default, with Convocation falling forward with Dominguez being thrown to the inner dirt course.
Dominguez has been the nation's leading rider the past two years, and is a finalist for his third Eclipse Award as the nation's leading rider.
