Dolphins release veteran defensive tackle Randy Starks
The Miami Dolphins' payroll purge continued Wednesday with news that the team released defensive tackle Randy Starks.
"We want to thank Randy for all of his contributions to the Miami Dolphins organization," Dolphins general manager Dennis Hickey said in a release. "Randy has meant a lot to the Dolphins in his seven years with the team and we wish him all the best in the future."
The move clears $5 million in cap space for the Dolphins.
A Pro Bowler in 2010 and 2012, Starks spent the last seven seasons with Miami and missed only one game during that span. He recorded 4.5 sacks to go along with 28 tackles in 15 games last season.
Starks, 31, remains an effective pass rusher at his age and his sudden availability will likely garner interest from several teams around the league. A 12-year veteran, he has recorded 384 tackles, 41 sacks, two forced fumbles, nine fumbles recovered and four interceptions in 171 games split between Tennessee and Miami.
The Dolphins are now without two of their top three defensive tackles from last year's team, as Jared Odrick signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
