Dolphins name 2014 team award winners
The Miami Dolphins announced on Friday the results of their annual team awards with quarterback Ryan Tannehill selected for the 2014 Dan Marino Most Valuable Player Award.
Additionally, defensive end Cameron Wake won the Don Shula Leadership Award and tackle Jason Fox was named the winner of the Nat Moore Community Service Award.
Tannehill won his first team MVP award -- which is voted on by the South Florida media and the organization -- after starting all 15 games for the Dolphins and compiling his best numbers ever this year. He has completed 369-of-551 passing attempts for 3,786 yards for a 67.0 completion percentage and 26 passing touchdowns, which are both career highs. His 311 rushing yards are also a career-best and the second most for a quarterback in Dolphins history.
For a second consecutive season, Wake gets the nod from his fellow teammates in winning the Don Shula Leadership Award after another inspiring season on and off the field. He started all 15 games and recorded 33 tackles (29 solo), 11.5 sacks, 18 quarterback hits, and eight tackles for loss. Wake also tied his career-highs with three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. He becomes the fourth Dolphins in franchise history to record double-digits sacks in at least three seasons.
A winner of the Nat Moore Community Service Award in his first season with the team, Fox took home the prize after an exemplary year of community involvement in South Florida. He was recognized by the Miami Dolphins Foundation after volunteering for the most events of any other player and for his continued efforts within the community.
